Sydhavn Station, Copenhagen. August 2020.

In the middle of a busy traffic node at Sydhavn Station hangs Signals and Codes (Knowledge is Power). In this public space, Eau Pernice’s 15 silkscreen prints are displayed in the station’s poster cases: a straight row that extends around a corner. The prints’ traffic lights in yellow and red might initially seem to refer to the function of the place, but the works also contain a hidden meaning. Inspired by Enlightenment thinker Francis Bacon’s binary code system, the numbers and colours of the works constitute a code. The code can be deciphered by passengers who stop to read about the code system in the exhibition text on site. The message concealed in Signals and Codes (Knowledge is Power) can be discovered by those who are curious and enter into conversation with the work.
